About us

Redder Splash! are meeting virtually, for workshops together, sharing and having a go at a range of random but interesting art focused topics.

The group hold a two-monthly challenge, set by one of the members, and all are invited to create a response.

Redder Splash! had its first meeting in December 1983. It was initiated by Linda Crook, a graduate of Camberwell School of Art and Crafts. The aim of the group was to build confidence in making and showing art. The group consisted of socialists Linda had known who were interested in improving their art practice. They were mostly based in Southwark and around South East London.  The group evolved into a women only group and for many years met weekly to explore art making, to learn new techniques and to draw inspiration from each other.  Some members who hadn’t been formally trained went on to art school as mature students. Others, who were in employment found their voice in painting, printmaking, and sculpture in their spare time. Group members would share what they had learned elsewhere at various workshops they had attended. Over the years they developed their talents in life drawing, etching, glass sculpture, and stone carving to name but a few.

Showing work in exhibitions together was always important. Redder Splash! showed regularly as a group in Southwark libraries, and other galleries such as the Cafe Gallery in Southwark Park. Some members now live further afield, but maintain a close bond with the those living in South London, meeting up when possible and working on their art together.
